Carmenere might be Chile’s signature grape, but cabernet sauvignon is the most planted and most popular varietal. In our recent report based on the JamesSuckling.com team’s trip to Chile earlier in the year, the top three wines, all scoring 100 points, were either partly or wholly based on this varietal, which is durable and well suited to Chile’s high altitude and varying terroirs, but also produces juicy, silky wines that can age for decades.
