Wine Spotlight: Siro Pacenti Vecchie Vigne 2015
If you are looking for a wine that exemplifies the magnificence of the 2015 vintage in Italy, and in Brunello Di Montalcino in particular, look no further than the Siro Pacenti Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne 2015, which we named our Wine of the Year in 2019.
It is a perfect example of what makes 2015 Brunello so compelling, with a real “wow” factor, and an energy and excitement that you don’t often come across, even when you taste thousands of wines every year!
We tasted it at least five times over the summer of 2019 (not too mention all the times recently at our Great Wines of World and Great Wines of Italy events in the United States) and it seems to get better all time. Like all the best 2015 Brunellos, the Pacenti Brunello 2015 shows super intensity of cool and dark fruits as well as stones and flowers and opens to a full and plush body of expansive yet utterly refined tannins that coat your palate in a caressing way. It shows glorious transparency and communication. It’s one of the best young Brunellos James has ever tasted in a career that spans four decades. And he has been tasting Brunellos professionally since 1983.
Owner Giancarlo Pacenti says his 2015 Brunello is “the wine of his career.” And we have to agree.
Located on the northern slopes of Montalcino, Siro Pacenti is a leader in the appellation. Founded in 1970, the winery is known for creating racy, powerful wines. In 1988, when management passed to Giancarlo Pacenti, Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino were bottled for the first time. The Brunellos are now raised from family-owned vineyards in both the north and south of Montacino, giving them a beautiful balance of richness and freshness. They remain a benchmark for Montalcino and all of Italy.
See below a short video on what Giancarlo Pacenti says about the vintage, and with this wine now available on the market, do try and get some if you can.
