[Video] Zoom Tasting With Marchesi Frescobaldi President, Lamberto Frescobaldi

This is part of an extensive program of content on Italian wines and culture over the summer of 2020 on JamesSuckling.com. Read this post to see more examples of the kinds of stories we will be posting over the next few weeks.

James did a Zoom tasting with Lamberto Frescobaldi, head of the Marchesi Frescobaldi group, on Friday, June 26, to taste a selection of wines from the 2016, 2017 and 2018 vintages. Starting with the Leonia Brut 2016, which James described as a “beautiful dry sparkling wine with very fine beads”, Lamberto went on to explain how the estate created this to be a “full meal wine” – one you can drink with your main course, just like any other wine.

They also tasted the Nipozzano Riserva 2017, which surprised James with its freshness despite coming from a very hot year. And also the Frescobaldi Tenuta Perano Rialzi Gran Selezione 2016, only the second vintage from this wine but which Lamberto described as really showing its identity.

They tasted many other wines too including the Luce 2017, the Castello Pomino Bianco Benefizio Riserva 2018, the Frescobaldi Tenuta Di Castiglioni Giramo 2017, and more.
