Vertical Tasting: Château Rauzan-Ségla 2008 to 2017
The pedigree of Château Rauzan-Ségla is exceptional. We would know, as we’ve tasted these wines from as far back as the late 1800s. In fact, the Margaux wine estate was considered at the same level as many of the first growths in the 19th century. Today, Rauzan-Ségla again rivals the best of Bordeaux, producing solid, finely crafted reds with wonderfully integrated fruit density and racy tannins. The owners of Chanel now control the property, along with St.-Emilion’s Château Canon and Château Berliquet.
Rauzan-Ségla has always been one of the most consistent, top producers in the Medoc. In good vintages such as 2009 and 2010, the château made outstanding wines that had everything in the right place. We’ve also tasted a number of vintages side by side and found them each very characterful. In challenging vintages such as 2012, the wine is still persistent and structured, demonstrating winemakers’ great capacity in the cellar. Here we’ve selected 10 of Rauzan-Ségla’s wines spanning 2008 to 2017.
