Siro Pacenti’s World-Class Brunello di Montalcino
The winery of Siro Pacenti, located on the northern slopes of Montalcino, is a leader in the production of Brunello di Montalicino, creating dense, powerful wines through the precise, able winemaking of owner Giancarlo Pacenti.
The winemaker produces his Brunellos from vineyards with decades-old vines in the northern and southern areas of the appellation.
Their 2006 vintage was one of my favorite Brunellos, a beautiful balance of richness and freshness as the owner Giancarlo later reveled in the vintage, saying it has the richness of 1997, tannic structure of 1999, and the freshness of 2001.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better from there, his latest 2010 vintage was an even greater bottle, scoring perfect 100 points! It shows fabulous intensity and balance with layer upon layer of fruit and polished tannins.
From the 2006 vintage to the 2010 vintage of Brunello di Montalcino, I am confident to say that Pacenti’s Brunellos are among the few that stand out as world-class.
I also did an interview with the winemaker back in 2011, where he talked about his 2006 vintage in details. You can watch it here.
