I recently returned to Hong Kong after spending a week at the JamesSuckling.com tasting office in Tuscany. During my time there, we prepared hundreds of samples from the region for tasting. However, it was here in Asia that I had the opportunity to explore a range of wines that were new to us, specifically from Emiliano Falsini in the Costa Toscana IGT, who also has a personal winemaking project on the slopes of Etna at Contrada Feudo Pignatone.
One bottle that stood out was the Emiliano Falsini Cabernet Franc Costa Toscana Limite 2021. It impressed with its complex aromas of berries, chocolate cherries, damp stones and a plethora of spices. What truly sets this vintage apart is its texture and freshness on the palate, making it remarkably well-balanced and enjoyable to drink despite its young age.
Costa Toscana consistently surprises us with new and exciting projects and wines, and their cabernet franc continues this trend, although in this case it only comes with a limited production of 2,800 bottles.
