Rosanne's Article: One Wine One World and Pope Benedict XVI

One Wine One World was served for a second time to Pope Benedict XVI with accompanying cardinals, archbishops and bishops during his recent visit to Arezzo, a small Tuscan town near Florence, Italy.

The wine, initially released in 2010, was served for the first time at a lunch attended by the Pope during the papal visit to London in September 2010. This time, in Tuscany, restauranteurs Paolo Tizzanini and Daniela Falli from the celebrated local Osteria dell’Acquolina contacted James Suckling to include One Wine One World on the menu served that afternoon.

Made in Italy with wine sourced from Hungary, Italy and Slovenia, the white wine – a blend of Pinot Grigio, Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and a little Furmint and Chevalier – was the perfect accompaniment to the first course: saffron and mint courgette risotto. Other wines served during the traditional Tuscan luncheon were well-known local wines Petrolo Galatrona 2008 and Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno 2009.

The proceeds from the wine go to charity. Most goes to a London-based interfaith charity, The Maimonides Foundation, whose mission is to promote understanding among Jews, Christians and Muslims. It is the brainchild of James’ friend David Khalili, the well-known UK property developer, philanthropist, and art collector.

    HI Rosanne,
Do you know when the wines are coming to California? I already try the white in the dinner in Italy and i love it.. I will love to try the red one.

I like the idea of James to support the foundation of his friend Khalili.. very nice thoughts promoting the idea of love and respect for all people not matter which religion do you have.
