My Article: Yes Mr. Prime Minister!

My children, Jack, 17, and Isabel, 13, just got back from meeting British Prime Minister David Cameron. He is staying at the Tuscan wine estate of Luca Sanjust, the owner of Petrolo, which makes such wines as the Sangiovese/Merlot blend Torrione and the pure Merlot Galatrona. Isabel was painting with the owner of Petrolo’s wife, Sabina Mirri, a famous painter in Italy.

The international press has been full of reports of Cameron and his family relaxing in the vineyards of Tuscany. I hear they are spending most of their time playing tennis and enjoying the pool next to Villa Petrolo. I think the Prime Minister prefers the 2008 Galatrona to the 2008 Torrione. He has good taste. It’s one of my top wines in Tuscany!

I asked Isabel what she thought of the PM, and she said, “He is very nice!” Isabel sang for him last December during The Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Here is the video.

Jack thought he was very polite and played a good game of tennis.

Good to have the Prime Minster here in Tuscany!

James, you must be a very proud father! I checked out Isabel's link along with a couple of her other videos. Having spent 25 years as a producer/engineer (Nashville mostly, before the music industry evaporated in about 2002), I can definitely see why producers and labels have interest in her - she's very talented! Keep giving her the emotional support she needs throughout because the road is a tough one, but not insurmountable.

Thanks David. It's been a tough road indeed. But I am giving her as much support as possible. She's a little low key right now "just being a teenager" as she says.

James, 'just being a teenager' is exactly the right thing for her to be doing. Sadly I've seen young people go down the tubes quickly because their careers soared way before they were ready to handle it, with a few notable exceptions. I remember having lunch at the Nashville Country Club one day. Lot's of industry people would hang out there but for me it was convenient to the studios on Music Row. I was sitting there enjoying my lunch and a teenage star whose name would be instantly recognizable was eating close by and flirting with me, incessantly. Everyone saw her doing this, plus it was inappropriate to me, so I finally called the waiter over and asked him to send her over a glass of milk from me. It totally got the message across but I thought about how wrecked her life was at such a young age. Your daughter seems very well grounded and that's because there is a great parental relationship in place. She'll do fine, even when it gets rocky and I appreciate your parenting skills as much as your wine skills.

What a wonderful voice. You must be very proud.

I was staying at Petrolo at the same time - Wish you could have stopped by and shared some bottles (and give me some advice for my wine purchases!!)
