My Article: Just Hanging at Home in Tuscany

I just finished a great dinner at home with friends and my daughter Isabel. It was no big deal, just a great steak that was cooked on my grill outside, and we had some incredible 1997 Italian reds and a “mystery” 1998 St. Emilion. It was all so good. 🙂

As my friend Thomas said, “We can go to all the three-star restaurants in the world, but the best moments for a food and wine lover are a great steak and a great bottle of red.”

Right on brother! Are those some of your best food and wine moments? Tell me!

I am so happy to be with my daughter. She was just nominated for the 2010 Classic FM Brit Awards for Best Album of the Year. You have to vote. Click here to vote. She is singing right now after dinner with her guitar; Rihanna works with 1997 Barolo.

Tonight I drank a bottle of Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne (97 points) and 1997 Castello di Barolo Chianti Classico (98) as well as the mystery bottle of 1998 Rol Valentin St. Emilion (96). Great wines. They were wines that showed richness but also class and subtlety. I love ripe years that maintain freshness. These are great European vintages…. These are my vintages.

Just went down to the cellar and found a bottle of 1997 Massolino Barolo Parafada. My buddy Marco decanted it and what a nose! This shows so much richness and opulent fruit with milk chocolate and licorice. It’s full and so velvety. What a wine. What a night.

freinds and exceptional wine enhances the experience. I only began my collection two years ago mainly with $25 05 bordeaux. But it is addicting and fun I enjoy my daily visits to your site... Keep up the good work.

My favorite wine moments are at home with my lovely wife, an amazing bottle, some friends or over at one of their homes. Little over a week ago, I spent time with my better-half, cooked some pasta, drank the mind-blowing '04 Saffredi and listened to Roxy Music on a beautiful windy night at home in Honolulu. Wow!

Had a grilled Porterhouse just two nights ago myself. Also, had frites fried in duck fat with a handful of fresh thyme, rosemary, and parsley tossed in the oil right at the end. Drank a 98 Grand Pontet and a 2000 La Fleur de Bouard. Good times!
