My Article: A Special Moment with Dominus

Last night I drank a bottle of 1996 Dominus during dinner at Nobu in Mykonos, Greece, and I was really impressed how balanced and refined the wine was. Granted, we were sitting outside in a strong wind; I was almost blown into the pool! So it was hardly perfect conditions to evaluate the wine. But the texture of the wine was so silky and beautiful, and the fruit pure, even more satisfying. It’s a 94-point wine. Perfect to drink now.

We drank a number of wines before the Dominus including a 2000 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto, a very good Greek red; 2006 Nico Lazaridi Magic Mountain; and an outstanding white Rhone blend from Israel, 2010 Ch. Golan Geshem.

No surprise. The Dominus out-classed all of them with its harmony and beauty. It even went well with Nobu’s classic dish of warm Miso Cod, not to mention the savory sirloin strips.

I have to say that I marveled at the bottle of Dominus as I drank it with friends on that Greek island. It seemed so lucky to have found it on the small wine list of Nobu. And it really added to that special evening with friends.

The 1996 Dominus will have a special place in my heart now – forever. That’s what great wine does. It highlights special moments.
