Mike D's Article: The Perfect 1996 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne
First off y’all, this is a 100-point wine. Straight up! I had the pleasure of tasting this 1996 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne in the company of two other 100-point white wines at the mother of all wine lunches. See James’ notes on the 1973 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet and 1990 François Raveneau Chablis Clos. I think he forgot to post the note on the 1996 Coche Corton in his blog!
This great white is pure opulence. The Taj Mahal and Versailles combined together in a bottle. The Camphor and wet marble floor of a Hindu temple seamlessly blended with stone fruits wrapped up with still tight acidity. Forget what ya heard on this wine; at least the bottle we had drank young. This shit has 10 years to go, easy. And that was after a two-hour decant. The wine only got better (if possible) as the meal went on. This, paired with a poached egg dish as well as the scallops that followed, was truly an ecstatic wine-drinking experience. 100 points.
