First off y’all, this is a 100-point wine. Straight up! I had the pleasure of tasting this 1996 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne in the company of two other 100-point white wines at the mother of all wine lunches. See James’ notes on the 1973 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet and 1990 François Raveneau Chablis Clos. I think he forgot to post the note on the 1996 Coche Corton in his blog!
This great white is pure opulence. The Taj Mahal and Versailles combined together in a bottle. The Camphor and wet marble floor of a Hindu temple seamlessly blended with stone fruits wrapped up with still tight acidity. Forget what ya heard on this wine; at least the bottle we had drank young. This shit has 10 years to go, easy. And that was after a two-hour decant. The wine only got better (if possible) as the meal went on. This, paired with a poached egg dish as well as the scallops that followed, was truly an ecstatic wine-drinking experience. 100 points.

1996 Coche Dury Corton Charlemagne: What an enticing nose. Insane aromas that turn to dried porcini and then lemons and apples. Full and thick yet racy acidity. It is electrified. Goes on and on. Honey. It lasts for minutes. So rocking. A baby. 100 points
