Mike D's Article: Domaine Gabriel et Paul Jouard Les Vide Bourses Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 2007
Had this lovely wine at a lovely dinner at the lovely Mas Farmhouse restaurant on a balmy night here in NYC. There were quite a few nice Burg options on the wine list. I went with the Jouard, as I have not tried the producer before. Big ups to the wine director, Christopher, for this recommendation. To quote a Tribe Called Quest, “It’s like butter baby, it’s like butter…” Rich, fat, round, creamy, super buttery, held in check with defined acidity. Some might think this ’07 is too young, but I found it to be GTG, aka good to go. This may work against me, but I love Vide Bourses (check my review of Vincent Girardin’s ‘02 effort). Big like its neighbor Batard. A nose of wet stone with some minerality, subtle stone fruits, and a hint of honey suckle even. Paired with a plate of seasonal seafood, veggies and aioli, this was big time enjoyable. 94 points. Find the wine.
I also got to taste a 2001 Gevrey Chambertin from Rene Leclerc that rocked the cheese dip. I mention this as an addendum of sorts to my prior ’01 reviews, as this ’01 red Burg was so delicious, giving, and ready for action. Plenty of dark fruits, hints of chocolate, southern barn funk and a hint of eucalyptus on the finish. Delicious. 95 points. Find the wine.
