Mike D's Article: 2000 Burgs

I like 2000 Burgs. They are drinking well, forward, giving, and evolved; see my review of a bottle of 2000 Emmanuel Rouget a few blogs back.  They are giving up the funk and giving up the fruit.

Hospices de Beaune 2000 Meo Camuzet Volnay-Santenots: A nose with plenty of funk, damp earth, mushroom-y fungus, slightly menthol. Even, and most definitely, unquestionably Burgundy. Dark fruit, cassis, quite a bit of peppery spice.  The wine is still young, but enjoyable. This is by far the bolder, more masculine of the two.

Domaine Meo Camuzet 2000 Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Boudots: This shit right here is delicious! Straight up. Dark and rich, fruit forward, still mainly primary with subtle hints of the secondary to come with time. Some back palate tannins. Again, dark fruit, in particular cassis, is present. Focused, this will become more giving and earthy with time. This is the more elegant and feminine of these two.
