Press Release: LALIQUE James Suckling 100 POINTS Collection
After a successful launch in late 2012 of the LALIQUE James Suckling 100 POINTS Universal Glass, the famous crystal house and the American wine critic have created a new range of glassware including wine specific glasses and decanters.
The Collection now includes nine shapes:
– Universal glass (100€) – Three glasses for specific regions/wine types: Burgundy (110€), Bordeaux (110€), Champagne (100€) – Water glass (130€ for 2 glasses) – Two tumblers: small and large (140€ for two glasses) – Two decanters: wine (700€) and water (640€)The aim of the 100 POINTS collection is to combine elegance and functionality. The design is characterized by a neo-classical style – Lalique’s signature frosted-texture. With different bowl shapes optimized for each type of wine, these glasses display a unique style through the frosted crystal ribs engraved on the stems. The other glasses and decanters maintain a similar motif.
“Like the Universal Glass, the new range of wine glasses are incredibly functional yet they are beautiful at the same time”. “Wine appreciate is more than just tasting effectively. It is also about aesthetics. These glass are beautiful to look at but they are also wonderful to touch and hold in your hand.”
The new range was produced following demand from primarily North America and Europe for larger wine glasses as well as different glassware. Suckling and Lailque spent months discussing favored shapes for such classic wine categories as Champagne, Bordeaux and Burgundy. Plus, they decided to go back to the traditional shaped water glass, which is the same height as a wine glass instead of popular stemless versions. The small and large tumblers are perfect for whisky and long drink, respectively.
‘These classic regional wine glass shapes are excellent with many different wines”.
The Champagne glass obviously works with all sparkling wines, accentuating the bubbles and the aromatic qualities. The Bordeaux glass is excellent with more structured reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese while the Burgundy is better with aromatic reds such as Pinot Noir, Syrah and Nebbiolo.
The Universal Glass works with just about every wine, maintains the wine critic. It originates from a wine glass James Suckling used for over 30 years tasting more than 150,000 wines.
The new wine decanter design originates from an inspiration from a small collection of antique decanters Suckling owns. It resembles a British ship decanter from the 1870s but is modernized with Lalique flair. The fondness of founder Rene Lalique for water carafes gave rise to the water decanter. “Decanting wine is a necessity for old wines to remove their sediment. And most young fine wines – both red and white – improve with a short decanting. So, we needed to create beautiful decanters.”
LALIQUE James Suckling 100 POINTS Collection certainly brings pleasure and beauty to create a magnificent table and a unique wine experience. For more information, please contact [email protected].
