JamesSuckling.com's Guide To 2012 Bordeaux

All of JamesSuckling.com’s coverage of 2012 Bordeaux is now posted on the site. In total, James tasted nearly 900 samples from the world’s pre-eminent wine region this January and February.

Of course, given the 2012 vintage is no 2010 or 2009, a fair proportion (almost exactly 50%) of wines did not meet the 90 points or more standard of excellence.

That said, this is all the more reason to present as much buying advice to the consumer/trade professional as possible this year; prices are reasonable and there are many great finds. The below summary of information available on JamesSuckling.com should therefore be informative.

100 TOP 2012 BORDEAUX REDS

Although this report does not present the definitive, top-100 order of red Bordeaux (this is usually released later in the year), all the 100 reds from the 2012 vintage that were scored most highly are visible to any premium subscriber. The wines are ranked first by score and then alphabetically. James also shares his in-depth commentary on the vintage as well as what appellations to look out in particular for 2012 reds.

2012 WHITE BORDEAUX

All the white Bordeaux tasted from 2012 can be found in this report for premium subscribers; one chateau picks up 98 points, but there is a real mix on offer, making this necessary reading. James admits that the 2012 vintage for whites cannot compete with 2011. Nevertheless, for dry whites, there are some great bottles to look out for, and they are all highlighted here. A few good buys in Sauternes are also included.
