Hong Kong Wine Challenge: Bordeaux Etc

To shake things up a little, this time on the Asia Tatler/Hong Kong Wine Challenge, instead of a restaurant, James visits Bordeaux Etc in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong’s first wine shop dedicated to Bordeaux wines, where there is said to be a bottle of 1869 Lafite available at about HK$200,000. Upon the visit, James asks owner Paolo Pong to select two labels from the 900 wines offered up for the Wine Challenge.

James expected this to be a walk in the park for Pong, as the concept behind Bordeaux Etc is for guests to “pick one [bottle] and drink it that evening” explains Pong. In other words, that maturity and aging have already been considered.  The wines selected for the Wine Challenge must be: – 90 points or above – priced under HK$1,000 per bottle – available for purchase at the named boutique

James then gives his own scores for the wines selected and chooses a winner.

For this Wine Challenge, James is presented with two bottles of Bordeaux: Pontet Canet 2007 (HK$769, read note) and Certan Marzelle 2005 (HK$715, read note).

Watch the video above to see which wine wins the Wine Challenge at Bordeaux Etc and the scores given to each wine.

Hi James, fully agree, Pontet Canet is first growth quality. On top of that Alfred Tesseron is such a nice and humble guy! He really deserves the success! Can't you do a lifetime wine review with Alfred since his 1994 until the 2011 barrel next time you're in Bordeaux? Would love to read about it or see a video even?!!!
