2010 Cantina Terlan Gewürztraminer Alto Adige

Most of Italy is off for the ferragosto today; it’s a holiday to celebrate the summer. So, a friend of mine made a quick multi-course for lunch today while I was tasting a range of whites from Northeast Italy.

One of my favorite wines this morning in my blind tasting was the 2010 Cantina Terlan Gewürztraminer. I really enjoyed its balance and finesse as well as freshness. Sometimes Gewürz is too alcoholic and heavy. You just can’t finish a glass. But the Terlan shows a wonderful balance and it’s an excellent value.

The bottle I tasted showed intense spices and minerals with sliced peaches on the nose that followed through to the palate. It was full-bodied, with wonderful acidity and fantastic fruit. It went on and on. For me, it’s one of the best values in refined Gewürz in the world. I scored it 93 points. Find the wine.
