2007 Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin

The upper echelon of Hong Kong’s wine collectors are drinking the best Burgundies on earth – just about everyday. In any given day, it can be bottles of Domaine de la Romanée Conti, Leroy, Henri Jayer, or Georges Roumier. However, one of the favorites is Armand Rousseau.

The good news is that they mostly drink premier cru and grand cru vineyard designated wines of the best of Burgundy, and the village wines go relatively unnoticed. And they usually only buy top vintages, especially young ones.

My girlfriend was nice enough to pour me a bottle of 2007 Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin with a simple Korean chicken dish she cooked at home. The wine was magic. I didn’t think 2007 would show that well, but it was beautiful.

2007 Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin: I love the purity of Pinot Noir in this. It shows intense yet subtle aromas of sliced strawberries and citrus. Medium to full body with ultra-fine tannins and a bright finish. A vivid and beautiful wine. Drink now or hold. 92 points.
