Whenever I have the luck to drink some La Turque, I always think of the first time I tasted the wine. It was with Marcel Guigal at the restaurant La Pyramide in the Rhone Valley. He had just released the first vintage: 1985. Even he was amazed by the quality of the wine and it was from young vines. The wine has been amazing ever since. The 1991 Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque is a slightly less known beauty. Most people think of 1989 or 1990 from this period as superb. But 1991 is wonderful. I drank it last night with friends at Balthazar in New York City. This is phenomenal with smoke and spice and meaty character with ripe dark fruits. Full and velvety. Round and delicious. Great. 98 points.
