Small Brunello producer Uccelliera has been making wines in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, roughly 10km from Montalcino, since 1990. Only as recently as in the current millennium, however, has Andrea Cortonesi, who significantly revamped the winery and vineyards, been able to turn out bottles of outstanding bottles from the estate.
Here, he describes first the various altitudes at which he operates, and then goes into more detail on the 2010 vintage for Uccelliera. He admits that at first the growing season presented challenges, in that véraison was limited in the first few days of August. He explains that it was after this that the vintage demonstrated its true excellence. He refers in detail to the noticeable concentration and aromatic qualities of 2010, as well as making comparisons to 2006 and 2007 – but for different reasons.
