Montalcino's Top Vineyards: Tenuta Luce della Vite's Madonnino Vineyard

In this video, Ermanno Morlachetti, winemaker at Tenuta Luce della Vite explains the characteristics that make the vineyard Madonnino so unique. The Marchesi di Frescobaldi owned  Luce della Vite estate is also known for its sangiovese and merlot blends but within the estate there is a sangiovese vineyard of outstanding quality that is used to make Luce della Vite Brunello di Montalcino.

As Ermanno explains, the vineyard sits at 400 meters above sea level with a south west facing orientation that guarantees the right amount of sunlight to achieve proper maturation. The schist based soil known in Tuscany as galestro, adds sapidity and minerality to the wine.

The combination of orientation, soil composition and altitude of the Madonnino vineyard are to a great extent responsible for the quality of the wine. A wine, that Ermanno describes as "powerful yet balanced".

Watch the video and find out what viticultural techniques are used in the Madonnino vineyard to enhance the quality of such an amazing wine.
