The Lalique & James Suckling 100 Points Wine Glass

I can talk about my new wine glass with Lalique -- 100 points -- but it’s better to see the whole story with your own eyes. This video shows the collaboration between myself and Lalique designer Marc Larminaux in creating what I think is a totally functional wine glass that is neo-classical in design and style. It’s all about simplicity and beauty with this glass. And I think it will enhance anyone’s wine experience, particularly drinking wine with friends and family in a beautiful setting.

We took the utmost care in creating something wonderful from the early design stages of fanning through books of old glass designs from Lalique to the actual production of the prototypes. It’s all in the video.

The idea of one glass for all wines is not a new one. In fact, it’s very old for me because I always used the same glass when possible for my professional tastings. I am also working on a Champagne glass because I think a flute does the wine justice. But the rest of it can be served in the Lalique & James Suckling 100 Points Wine Glass.

I hope you enjoy the free video. If you would like to read a brochure on the glass, please click here.

Congratulations, James. Any idea when it will available across the pond? Online ordering options for those of us who live in the middle of the Pacific?

Thank you! The glass should be $135 in the US. Subscribers will receive a 10% discount. Europe should be 100 Euros and Hong Kong HK$980.

Must have been a fascinating day at the Lalique factory. So much skill on display, from the blower to the engraver.

Pretty incredible that some things are still done by humans and not by machines. So amazing to see the craft and skill of glass making...not to mention how nice the glasses actually turned out. Drinking wine out of a glass that was just made, pretty cool.

    The wines looked good too...lol

Great video, James. So fascinating to see just how complex is the creation, then the fabrication, of a Lalique crystal glass. Drinking fine wines from a work of art can only enhance the experience! Best regards, jmd
  7. i have noticed that james prefers smaller glasses for tasting and not the big riedel bordeaux or burgundy glasss. i have seen it in many f his tastig videos. interesting. i was kind of surprised when tastig first growths they were not using sommelier glasses from Riedel. i have them all and never found much difference. i can smell the wine just fine in the smaller glass - maybe better ?? its not a diluted by large volumes of air. but i bought all these different riedel and spanglau glasses - i have to use them right, right????
  8. wonderful ! you invented a glass with a sensual foot..! exciting...but have you already taken?...your foot ?

i have to admit i was sceptical at first as to whether the glass makes a difference. but after purchasing it, i find that somehow it adds to the wine. The stem feel is great, but the wine just seems more elegant. All in my head? who knows, but i'm glad i bought the glass!
