JAMES SUCKLING’S FIRST NEW ZEALAND HARVEST: SHINING THROUGH THE RAIN [VIDEO]

James and Marie Suckling picked part of their 3,000 vines (Clone 828) while they were in Martinborough, New Zealand, at the beginning of March. It was a difficult vintage for so many on the North Island with so much rain. Botrytis and sour rot were present in the grapes, so special attention was paid to select only the good-quality grapes. James and Marie had enough grapes to ferment some must at their neighbor’s winery, Ata Rangi, but it was quite a dramatic finish to a long and difficult growing season. James’ daughter, Isabel, who works in television in London, came out for the harvest and shot and edited this video.
