Interview: Roberto Voerzio: 2007 Barolo (Part 2)

I believe that Roberto Voerzio is the greatest grape grower in Italy. I have know him for about two decades, and I can’t think of a man who tends his vines better than Roberto, who makes some of the most amazing red wines on earth in the appellation of Barolo. Each year his single-vineyard Barolos are some of my favorite wines to taste. I met with Roberto and his son Davide a month ago in their winery on the outskirts of La Morra. I asked him about the excellent 2007 vintage for Barolo.

Great video! Makes me want to go out and drink some of his wines. I need more exposure to Barolo. In the past I have been turned off at times as the wines seem out of balance showing extreme drying tannins on the finish, too much acidity (and I like acidity), and overall lack of fruit. Likely drinking many of those wines too young.

he said it "Ellegance". for me this is the main purpose of wine, this is why wine is so special and so very different than any other alcoholic beverage. When a wine is done right, it caresses my mouth and finishes smooth with fruit and spices lingering. But it's the ellegance that makes the huge difference btw a good wine and an amazing wine.
