The word Caberlot derives from the combination of Cabernet and Merlot. Caberlot is the name of an enigmatic clone between the Merlot and Cabernet varieties that first appeared in the hills of Verona about four decades ago. According to Peter Schilling, enologist and winemaker at Podere Il Carnasciale, the leaves of this singular variety resemble that of Merlot while the grapes are like those of Cabernet. The winery claims it is the only vineyard in the world that plants Caberlot. In this video, owner Moritz Rogosky and enologist and winemaker Peter Schilling explain the unique elements that make Podere Il Carnasciale's vineyard and its Caberlot wine so singular, from the vineyard's history and location to current vineyard management.
