Château Lafite Rothschild: Part One (2000, 2003)

In this video, James visits Château Lafite Rothschild in Bordeaux, arguably the most famous wine estate in the world. Lafite has been making wine for centuries, but it may be making its best wine ever. He tastes samples of the 2000 and 2003 vintages with Christophe Salin, president of Domaines Baron Rothschild, and estate manager Charles Chevallier. Upon tasting the 2000, James found the nose to exude cedar, mint, cool stone and violet. With silky, fine tannins, the wine was a combination of the elegance and beauty found in the finest Burgundy, along with the strength and muscle of Bordeaux. As for the 2003, James was struck by the fruit and sexiness, calling it voluptuous and outrageous. "It's like a party," he noted. There was so much fruit on the nose, along with flowers. This wine definitely had more obvious characteristics. Watch and see it all unfold.
