Krug, founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, remains one of the most revered and prestigious houses in Champagne. The house focuses mainly on its celebrated Grande Cuvée-- a blend made with up to ten different vintages that aims for a homogeneous style described by house manager Olivier Krug "as the most generous expression of Champagne". But they also produce a range of other prestigious Champagnes, including a vintage, a rosé, the very exclusive vintage single vineyard Clos du Mesnil Blanc de Blancs, and the tiny production vintage Blanc de Noirs Clos d'Ambonnay. Krug is well known for meticulous winemaking. Every year fruit from between 200 and 300 plots is individually vinified in oak vats to preserve site tipicity and precision at the time of blending. With the Grande Cuvée Krug aims to transcend vintage complications and create a wine that offers the best Champagne year in and year out.
In this video, founding family member and general manager Olivier Krug, comments on the values and history behind their Champagnes. He also talks about the new Krug ID that appears on the back label of each bottle; with the Krug app a consumer can get all the details for a particular bottling, from the disgorgement dates to the vintages and varieties in the blend.
