James recently tasted 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva as well as some single vineyard wines. The difference between non-riserva Brunellos and Riserva is that, as stipulated by the disciplinare di produzione (the legal document that establishes Brunello's wine production regulations), the Riserva must be aged for at least five years, while normal Brunellos must be aged for a minimum of four years.
One of the top wines of the vintage was Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto, a wine made from a single vineyard close to the town of Montalcino. In this video, Giacomo Neri, owner and winemaker at Casanova di Neri, and James discuss the 2007 vintage in comparison with the 2006. Watch the video for the full discussion. Enjoy!
