On the evening of June 4 at the prestigious Domani Restaurant in Hong Kong, the premiere movie screening for James' feature documentary "Cannubi: A Vineyard Kissed by God" took place. Over 200 people attended the screening, and the event included a typical Piemontese dinner that was served while the movie was being watched. The film additionally premiered online at JamesSuckling.com where nearly 3,000 people watched it worldwide.
Domani manager Stefano Bassanese and executive chef Andrea Spagoni created a fabulous menu for the night, which included Piedmont specialties such as vitello tonnato (veal with tuna sauce), crudo di fassone con tartufo nero (fassone beef tartar with black truffle), agnolotti del plin al sugo d'arrosto (plin agnolotti pasta filled with meat, veal stock sauce), guancia di wagyu brasata al Barolo con polenta bramata mantecata (Barolo braised wagyu beef cheek with soft creamy polenta), and bunet extra fondente (extra dark Piemonte chocolate pudding).
The dinner was paired with some of the finest Cannubi wines from 10 of the best producers: Damilano Barolo Cannubi 2009, G.B. Burlotto Barolo Cannubi 2009, Borgogno Barolo Cannubi 2008, Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cannubi 2007, Marchesi Di Barolo Barolo Cannubi 2007, Poderi Luigi Einaudi Barolo Cannubi 2006, Chiara Boschis Barolo Cannubi 2005, Ceretto Barolo Cannubi San Lorenzo 2003, Paolo Scavino Barolo Cannubi 2008, and Francesco Rinaldi Barolo Cannubi 2008. Attendees could enjoy the wines while watching Cannubi producers explain their passions and feelings for one of the most sought-after vineyards on earth in the film.
James also used his special Lalique wine glasses for the event -- James Suckling 90+. These are the same form as the 100 Points universal wine glass but without the expensively elaborate stems.
Guests at the premiere included some of Hong Kong's VIP wine collectors and well-respected members of the business community, as well as the Italian Consul General to Hong Kong, Ms. Alessandra Schiavo.
