The 2010 is proving to be one of the great vintages across the board in Italy and Brunello di Montalcino is at the forefront of the vintage’s success. Some producers claim that it is already the vintage of the century; others more prudent say that it is the best vintage they have ever made. The truth is, all agree that, in recent history, it is one of the greatest vintages of Brunello di Montalcino.
Francesco Ripaccioli, the young winemaker of the historic Canalicchio di Sopra estate, is not shy to say that 2010 is one of the best Brunellos ever made. The estate was founded in 1962 and it’s located in the northern side of Montalcino where the exposition is more moderated and where the wines tend to be more elegant. For Francesco, 2010 is a success as a result of the rare combination of power and elegance, which are two qualities that are seldom found in a single vintage of Brunello.
