Barolo 2010: Aldo Conterno

In this video, Franco Conterno, co-owner of Poderi Aldo Conterno, discusses the climatic conditions during the 2010 vintage and the effects on the wine. As he comments, the late flowering during the 2010 vintage naturally reduced yields, creating in turn more concentration in the grapes. Another aspect of the vintage was the particularly dry and hot months of September and October. However, these months were also characterized by cold nights, allowing for an almost perfect ripeness of the polyphenols.

For James, one of the outstanding wines of the 2010 vintage was the Aldo Conterno Romirasco. This is one of the highest vineyards in Bussia in the commune of Monforte d'Alba, which makes this site slightly colder than those in the area. The Romirasco vineyard is made up predominantly of old vines, which also adds significant concentration and elegance to the wines. In addition, its water-retaining clay and limestone soils allowed this vineyard to perform specially well during the dry months of September and October.
