James kicked off the year in our office in Hong Kong tasting together with four of the JamesSuckling.com tasters/editors as well as our new executive editor, Jim Gordon. They dove deep into more than 200 Barolos, mostly from 2020, as well as a few dozen Barbarescos.

Now that we at JamesSuckling.com are rating more than 40,000 wines per year, there is a lot to share on Instagram as our wine-tasting team travels to the farthest reaches of the wine world. We rated 569 wines in our latest Weekly Tasting Report, with James coming across a couple of extraordinary old-vine pinot noirs in Martinborough, New Zealand.

Our No. 1 Top Value Wine for 2023, the Muré Riesling Alsace Grand Cru Vorbourg Clos Saint Landelin 2019, is a stunning Alsatian riesling with massive structure and power that can be found for the rather amazing price of just $33.

Our final tasting month of the year at JamesSuckling.com comprised 3,130 wines, with France and the U.S. giving us a whopping 1,456 and 781 bottles, respectively, and putting our final tally for the year at nearly 40,000 wines tasted.

Senior Editor Stuart Pigott tasted a very diverse range of wines over the past week as we said goodbye to 2023, with the Galen Glen Riesling Lehigh Valley Stone Cellar 2022 standing out as the best white wine he has ever tasted from Pennsylvania.

Everyone always talks about the excellence of Oregon pinot noir, but we think that more people should be chiming in on chardonnay from the state.
