My Article: Lalique & James Suckling Wine Glass

I am launching my wine glass tomorrow in Paris to French journalists and the global distributors for Lalique, the fine crystal manufacturer. The Lalique and James Suckling 100 Points Wine Glass is the realization of dream. I have wanted to make a wine glass for almost my entire career as a wine critic and journalist.

This glass is one glass for white, rosé and red. It’s one glass for any wine whether it’s a fine first growth Bordeaux or a hearty Nero d’Avola from Sicily. I have tried the prototype with just about everything. It works, and it makes life easy.

Many of you know that I have traveled around the world tasting and drinking wine for the last three decades with a small leather case of four Riedel glasses. I always tasted from the same glasses. My experience with this made me believe in a “one glass for everything” philosophy.

What also makes my glass different than most others is that it brings beauty back to wine drinking. That’s why I asked Lalique to help me design and make the glass. It offers functionality, yet it’s so beautiful. It enhances your wine pleasure through your eyes as well as your hands. The unique frosted rib stem harkens back to the art nouveau and art deco history of the crystal maker – the great man himself, René Lalique.

Hold the glass, and you will know what I mean. I hope you like what you can see. I will post a video tomorrow on the site of the creation of the glass as well as its production.

Does it work also well also with sparkling wines such as champagne and Italian metodo classico?!
