Great Wines of the Andes – November 18 in NYC – Event Recap

November 21, 2014 @ 10:55 am

On November 18, top producers from Argentina and Chile – 50 in total – gathered at City Winery in New York City to offer up some of their best wines for tasting. Organized by JamesSuckling.com and Zachys, Great Wines of the Andes was a fantastic opportunity for the 500 trade and consumers who attended to discover some new and  favorite wines.

All of the nearly 140 wines poured were rated 90 points or more by James on his recent trips to the Andes; even his Wine of the Year 2014 – the 2011 Cobos Malbec – was available for tasting at the event – 100 points.

Although the outstanding wines were what drew people in, meeting the winemakers themselves was also a highlight. “It’s so great to see their passion for winemaking,” remarked one patron.

The room was filled with energy as everyone at the venue enjoyed the evening. Live music by Musette Explosion added some real flare, and brought the tasting to new heights. Just like the wines communicated the unique soils of the Andes, smiles all around communicated a great night had by all.

Below are some photos from Great Wines of the Andes. Enjoy, and be sure to check out the event guidebook for what was served as well as background info on each participating winery.
