1904 Château d'Yquem Sauternes

It’s hard to get your head around this: A 1904 d’Yquem. Some wine collector friends in Zurich dug out this treasure from a cellar and generously shared it at a dinner back in September. It was reminiscent of tawny port in color with yellow and caramel hues. There were intriguing aromas of toffee and caramel and honey. The dried grapes came to the fore soon enough along with smoked meat undertones. On the palate, it was full-bodied and medium sweet. Indeed, it didn’t taste sweet at first, but eventually it began to express this too. The label came off in my hands it was so old. 97 points
