I just visited the Araujo Estate in Napa Valley to shoot a video with owner Bart Araujo about his views on biodynamic viticulture. However, I also tasted some wines. I tasted the 2008 Cabernet, and the notes will be posted later. But I thought I would post the Sauvignon and Syrah notes now.
2010 Araujo Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley Eisele Vineyard: Amazing aromas of Sicilian lemon rind and lavander. Hot stones or tiles too. Full bodied, with a lovely balance of acidity and light vanilla with cream and lemons, then turns to pears and white peaches. So subtle and fine. This is 100 percent Sauvignon, instead of including a small percentage of Viogner. Bart says it is much more minerally in character. Stylistically like a top Pessac-Leognan. 95 points. Find the wine.
2008 Araujo Syrah Napa Valley Eisele Vineyard: Gorgeous aromas of smoked meat, berries, and dried flowers. Cameroon black pepper. Very Cote Rotie. Full and velvety with lovely tannins and a chocolate, caramel and fruit character. This has an amazing finish. It goes on for mintues. Phenomenal. Magnificent. 97 points. Find the wine.
