I’m thrilled to announce that Stuart Pigott, arguably the world’s foremost expert on Riesling, has joined JamesSuckling.com as a contributing editor. He will review the wines of Germany and Austria as well as the East Coast of the United States (
I’ve been friends with Stuart since the late 1980s when we both lived in London. We also tasted the wines of Germany and Austria together in the early 1990s for The Wine Spectator. He and I share the same taste for exact and balanced wines that emphasize their pedigree and drinkability. “Wine is all about pleasure and that comes from balance and character,” said Pigott. “It’s great to be working for a colleague who believes in these things as much as I do.”
I’m happy to be working with him again, and I believe his coverage of Germany and Austria in particular will be valuable to our millions of followers in Asia, North America, and Europe. Stuart first started tasting these wines seriously back in 1984. Since 2001, he’s been the wine columnist for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (Germany’s equivalent of the New York Times or the South China Morning Post), and he’s even filmed three series for the acclaimed TV show Wine Wonder Germany for the public broadcast channel of Bavaria.
Stuart joins Nick Stock in Melbourne, Australia, as a contributing editor, and he splits his time between Berlin and New York City when he is not in wineries or vineyards.
