The setting for Great Wines of Italy in San Francisco couldn’t have been more perfect – the afternoon of January 24 was sunny and clear, allowing for a stunning view of Alcatraz through the windows of the General’s Residence. A total of 72 wineries, hand-picked by James, eagerly poured their best; in all, over 140 wines – all scoring 90 points or more – were showcased at the event.
More than 400 attendees, who were lucky enough to get a ticket before the event sold out weeks in advance, relished in the opportunity to taste Italy’s top wines, including the vintage of a lifetime, 2010 Brunello. Patrons had a fantastic afternoon talking to the winemakers themselves as they enjoyed performances by Rob Moose of Bon Iver and a wonderful cheese and meat spread to boot.
