Château Angélus: Bordeaux 2010 in Bottle

Château Angélus has finally come of age. Their first serious vintage came in 1988, the estate was upgraded to a Premier grand cru classé (B) in 1996, in 2012 to a Premier grand cru classé (A) – a new "First Growth" for Saint-Émilion – and the 2010 is their best wine ever (click here for James' note and score).

Much can be attributed to Hubert de Boüard, who took over the property in 1980, and in this video James speaks to his son Matthieu de Boüard. Despite being arguably the greatest modern vintage ever after 2009, 2010 didn't come without difficulties.

The levels of high alcohol were particularly problematic given high temperatures during both years, and so James and Matthieu discuss how they surmounted the challenge. They also compare the 2009 to 2010, as well as mentioning the 2012. Watch the video for more.
