Great Wines of the World New York 2023 Wows Again

Following our kickoff edition in Miami earlier this year (watch the video here), JamesSuckling.com Great Wines of the World returned to New York on June 15 and 16. More than 2,000 attendees, wine enthusiasts, wine trade members, hospitality professionals, sommeliers and collectors  joined us at the Altman Building for two unforgettable Grand Tastings in the Big Apple. There was so much energy and excitement from the audience.

Curated by JamesSuckling.com, the event featured 200 handpicked producers from some of the world’s best wine-producing areas, representing renowned wineries and their latest releases. All of the wines featured were rated at least 92 points (with the majority scoring 95-98 points) and many made it onto the JamesSuckling.com Top 100 Wines of 2022 list. Attendees had the opportunity to explore an extensive range of wines from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, the United States, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and more, and in many cases taste these firsthand with the winemakers or winery owners.

One of the highlights of the event was undoubtedly the selection of top wines that were featured as Wine of the Year for their respective countries or regions, and those that received 100-point scores. Wine lovers had a rare chance to taste these firsthand, often with the winemakers who crafted them.

Some other highlights included the Günther Steinmetz Riesling Mosel Neumagener Rosengartchen Von Den Terrassen 2021 (98 Points) from Germany: This giant wine gives you a very clear idea of how small each of us really is…exceptional finesse”; the T-Oinos Mavrotragano Cyclades Clos Stégasta Rare 2019 (98 Points) from Greece: Really superb. I taste and I marvel. 1,300 bottles. Wonderful now, but will go on for decades“; and the Shafer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Stags Leap District Hillside Select 2018 (99Points) from California: “All about balance and purity. Gorgeous now, but this will age for decades to come.”

Attendees had the opportunity to gain insights straight from the source, interact with industry experts, and discover hidden gems in the wine world.
