The other top vineyard referred to in Hilary's blog on the Petrolo estate is Boggina, and that's where I caught up with owner Luca Sanjust in this video. The Boggina vineyard is by contrast to Galatrona entirely sangiovese, and was planted much earlier in 1947 by Luca's grandfather. The best grapes go into a single-vineyard wine of the same name, Boggina, while most go into Petrolo's entry-level wine, Torrione. In addition, Luca has been bottling a tiny percentage of grapes from the vineyard after fermentation in amphorae. This summer 2013 I tasted the first vintage of "Bogginanfora," 2011, and it was out of this world. Click for the tasting note.
