2022 Wine of the Year Interview: Beaulieu Vineyard’s Trevor Durling

The JamesSuckling.com Wine of 2022 is well-deserving of the accolade. The Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Georges de Latour Private Reserve 2019 is not only perfect, but it also highlights the greatness of so many wines from Napa Valley and the United States from the 2019 vintage.

James sits down with Trevor Durling, BV's chief winemaker, to congratulate him on the honor and to find out how he made such a fantastic wine.

"It was a phenomenal vintage from grape to bottle," Trevor tells James. "I think it started with just a fantastic growing season," with plentiful rain in the winter, a long, warm summer and no major heat spikes. He added that the 2019 – "an elegant expression of Private Reserve" – reminds him of many of Napa's great vintages of the 60s and 70s.

Check out the interview to find out all of Trevor's and James' thoughts on the 2019 vintage, how it compares with other years, and all that went into the making of the BV Private Reserve.
