Bruno Giacosa: 2007 Barbaresco & Barolo

In James' most recent blog, he writes about two intruiging encounters with two legends of Piedmonte: Bruno Giacosa and Roberto Conterno. Whilst they both share unparalleled renown as winemakers from Northern Italy, their views on vintages can be quite different.

Yet of course it's sometimes best to see it for yourself:

Here in the first of a series of videos first posted in 2011 with Bruno, the man himself, and his daughter Bruna, James tastes the great 2007 vintage. And here are four following videos where James tastes his 2005, 2004, 2003 and 2000 (Click on the year to view).

Then for comparison, here's a video where James tastes Roberto Conterno's 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 (Click on the years to see the video).

Just from the years that were or weren't bottled you begin to see part of what is a fascinating story. It's a story that should be part of any avid wine lover's understanding when they drink fine wines from Piedmont.

Thanks for the video James! Thought you Rated the '07 Barolo Rocche Falletto Riserva 97 points? At the end of the video you seem to suggest it's 100. Did I confuse your thoughts with Bruno's? Thanks.

When Bruno Giacosa says he can't make a better wine, I believe that he means NOBODY can make a better wine! ;)

Curious if you tasted 96 Barolo Riserva (at your tasting) as at one point was Bruno's favorite. What a great opportunity. You are a rock star!!!!
