2006 Brunello di Montalcino: Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova

Giacomo Neri, the owner of Casanova di Neri, is the only producer in my tasting book to have made two perfect wines in Tuscany. First was his mind blowing 2001 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto. The wine is a compelling red with powerful tannins and a sleek and racy finish. Now, there is the 2006 Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova. It is a perfect wine with everything in proportion from the ripe fruit and fine tannins to the bright acidity and rich alcohol. Watch my quick interview and tasting with Giacomo at his home in his dinning room in Montalcino and his emotional response when I tell him that I think his wine is perfection.

    James,

Glad to have you back. I bought a case of the '06 on your advice. I signed on to your site free for today but will evaluate for an upgrade. Thanks.

James it was great seeing Giacomo from one my favorite wineries in the world. It is also great to see my favorite wine critic again.

Wonderful video. Really liked hearing from Giacomo Neri and really liked James' thoughts about the 2006 Brunello di Montalcino: Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova. Just when things started getting interesting, the video was over. Wished the video was a bit longer (3-5 minutes). And, wanted to hear more from Giacomo than what was said. Perhaps in another video we can hear more from Giacomo about his wines and wine making process. Giacomo seems a bit shy and reserved on camera, but I'm sure he'll open up more on the next go-around.

James, thanks for the report. Casanova di Neri is a great house, producing marvelous wines. Specifically on the 2006 (which I personally have not tasted yet) I noted that during an earlier tasting (together with some other Casanova di Neri wines and vintages) you gave this 97 points. What has lead you to up the score to 100? I should be receiving some cases shortly, so hopefully can verify the perfection of this wine for myself in a weeks time or so.
