GREAT WINES OF THE WORLD 2021 [SUMMER]: A BONANZA OF NEW WINES AND TASTERS, TOPPED BY A TANTALIZING VERTICAL

193 Tasting Notes
One of the many Masterclasses that James personally led during the Summer Edition.

The Summer Edition of Great Wines of the World 2021 came to an end on June 12, seeing a total of 891 tasters coming through the doors of James Suckling Wine Central over the course of four weeks.

More than 120 wines from nearly 70 wineries in 10 top wine regions – including El Enemigo, Penfolds, Chateau Phelan-Segur and Peter Michael, maker of the #1 wine in our Top 100 Wines of USA 2020 – were featured. Many of these wines have been rated 95-98 points on JamesSuckling.com (several rated 99 and 100 points!) and were pre-releases to the market, and it was here at Wine Central that they were shown for the very first time in all of Asia.

For our international wine lovers, our official guidebook for Summer Edition is free to download, and producers have provided us with their video tasting notes as well to introduce the wines that were featured in our masterclass sessions. Here are the buttons:

During this time a total of 13 themed Masterclasses were held on topics such as “Champagne Laurent-Perrier ‘Grand Siècle’ Masterclass,” “Icons of Barolo: Pio Cesare and Roberto Voerzio Vertical Tasting,” “Domaines de Baronarques Vertical Tasting,” and “Bellissimo Brunello: 2007 Vintage Tasting.” Some classes were led by the JamesSuckling.com tasting team and some by James Suckling personally.

But the highlight was “Château Lafite Rothschild Vertical Tasting: Beyond 2020,” hosted by Château Lafite Rothschild’s CEO Jean-Guillaume Prats and James Suckling, where they looked at the new 2020 vintage and compared it to five similar vintages from the last three decades: 2016, 2010, 1996, 1988 and 1985.

Check out some photos of the masterclasses below, and also see below the wine notes for all wines poured during the event.

Stay tuned for details on the next edition of Great Wines of the World 2021.
