James just tasted the 2018 Chateau d’Yquem on Zoom with the head of the property Pierre Lurton, who is also the head of Cheval Blanc. The two were impressed with the sweet wine’s intensity and finesse. It has wonderful drinkability despite its richness and structure. Lurton attributes this to the late harvest in late October when the botrytis developed. He also said it was due to the small production of grapes that were hit by hail in July and reduced the crop by 40 percent.
