Bibi Graetz is an iconoclastic Tuscan winemaker who takes a unique approach to winemaking. James has been tasting his wines for years, and the Bibi Graetz Toscana Bianco Testamatta 2018 recently came fourth in our list of top Italian summer whites.
Graetz – who is half Norwegian and half Israeli – looks for richness, yet finesse, and great length and depth in his wines. His wines age really well, even though the first vintage of Testamatta was 2000. Graetz has an affinity for old vines, particularly indigenous grape types such as sangiovese, colorino, and colore. There’s always a touch of genius in his reds and whites.
In July, James tasted two new releases over Zoom with Bibi. They tried the Bibi Graetz Toscana Testamatta 2018 and the Bibi Graetz Toscana Colore 2018. James was impressed with the intensity of the Colore and said it was one of the best he’s ever tasted.
