In January 2020, James Suckling and the JamesSuckling.com tasting team toured northern California tasting 1,100 barrel samples and wines from the 2016, 2017 and 2018 vintages. His conclusion: some people are not going to like wines in 2017 from Northern California, particularly reds from Napa Valley. But James did found numerous excellent quality 2017 reds, despite the troublesome hot weather during the growing season and the devastating fires in October.
