This year is a huge one for the team at JamesSuckling.com. It marks a full decade of the JamesSuckling.com website, and promises to be our busiest, biggest and best ever year in terms of the tastings we do, the content we create and the events we arrange. It all kicks off in two short weeks in Miami, where we debut our flagship Great Wines of the World event series in the United States. Already a massive hit in Asia after running for six straight years (each one bigger than the last), we cannot wait to bring the world’s best wines to Miami, Florida.
We continue a month later across six US cities for Great Wines of Italy, where more than 250 of Italy’s best wineries will pour their top wines recently released in the market. Our full lineup of 2020 wine tasting events can be seen on this page.
But it’s not just events and content. Below, James puts together a few thoughts about how he hopes to make the most of this 10th Anniversary year, making more great wines accessible to more people around the world.
James’ 2020 wine resolutions
Continue to enjoy and appreciate amazing wines. The year 2020 represents the 10th anniversary of JamesSuckling.com, which I have worked hard to create. This year will be about continuing to ensure as many people as possible get to learn about and appreciate great winemaking. Wine is for everyone!
Promote more natural wines. I want to help people find more high quality low-intervention wines, to help them look at the wine world in a different and authentic way.
Explore organic and biodynamic viticulture. Seek out and support more wineries whose vineyards are cultivated organically or biodynamically as a way to assure fewer chemicals in farming – they harm our environment!
Explore more events around Asia. The appetite for wines in lesser-known markets in Asia right now is huge. It’s why I love living here. Korea and Vietnam are especially interesting right now. Watch this space …
Continue to promote great wines everywhere. It would have been easy to have postponed or canceled our events in Hong Kong this year due to protests. But we didn’t, and we saw how important it is to continue to do our work to promote great wine even in the face of adversity.
Put even more ‘lesser-known’ wine regions on the map. The rise in quality across smaller regions eg US non-West Coast, Slovenia, Hungary, and lesser-known parts of Australia continues every year. I love discovering new gems.
Support more Chinese wines. China’s potential as a wine producing market is huge. I also predict it will be the biggest wine consumer market in the world in five years time. I would love to show the world how good these wines could be.
